@MugsysRapSheet @RonSupportsYou @renewedresistance A couple of notes.

Mussolini was already dead when he was hanged in Piazzale Loreto. He had been executed by firing squad a few days prior.

The current President of the Italian Senate, Ignazio la Russa, has a bust of Mussolini at home.
This just to say that no, neither Italy neither Germany actually managed to get rid of fascism.

Much like the USA, Italy and Germany rejected the aesthetics of fascism, without rejecting its substance and are, for example, enthusiastically supporting the genocide in Gaza while aggressively suppressing dissent at home.

All of Europe is moving towards xenophobic authoritarianism, we're just a couple of election cycles behind the USA.

Trump and his sycophants, and their clones here in Europe, don't come out of nowhere.
Just like fascism once century ago they are the result of conditions of wealth concentration, colonialism and xenophobia that will still persist once the specific people are removed.

I honestly believe nothing short of the prosecution/conviction/imprisonment of #Felon47 and a dozen members of his sycophantic WH #cult will move the rest of the world towards ever trusting us again.

One need look no further than how Italy responded to #Mussolini after WWII (a public execution & denouncement) or German rejection of #fascism for examples of how they knew what it would take to ever be trusted again.

We will have to go thru the same rebirth.

In 2017, one newspaper recognized German chancellor Merkel, not Trump, as "the leader of the Free World".

That's kinda my point.

It wasn't enough to execute #Mussolini by firing squad. They then hung his dead body for public display/condemnation.

They were sending a message to the world.
