In the past 20 years, plastic production has doubled, and it will double again, perhaps triple, in the near future. Petrochemicals for plastic are expected to be the largest single driver of oil demand in the decades to come.

‘They pushed so many lies about recycling’: the fight to stop big oil pumping billions more into plastics

Plastic production has doubled over the last 20 years – and will likely double again. For author Beth Gardiner, metal water bottles and canvas tote bags are not the solution. So what is?

Thought #climatepolicy landscape already devastated? United States has succeeded in removing climate change from the main priorities of the International Energy Agency.
Insane concept to focus on energy security, resilience, critical minerals and electricity systems while ignoring #climatebreakdown is a remarkable turnaround from the last ministerial two years ago, when addressing the climate crisis and phasing out fossil fuels was named as the IEA's top priority.

US succeeds in erasing climate from global energy body’s priorities

Trump’s energy chief had threatened to leave the International Energy Agency if it continued to focus on climate.

Authorities in Cyprus have urged residents to reduce their water intake by 10% – the equivalent of two minutes’ use of running water each day – as Europe’s most south-easterly nation grapples with a once-in-a century drought*

This statement was issued in February

FEBRUARY (come July...)

*Once in a century, except for next year when it will be ....

It’s no great suprise that economists and environmental scientists are aware of different issues when it comes to #ClimateBreakdown and therefore champion different solutions.

Having worked with economists, there are some doing fantastic work in terms of energy economics…but I doubt they would know much about ocean acidification for example. You might argue, why should they?

The problem is that economists tend to have the ear of the Treasury far more than scientists.
