Nearly half of the Lower 48 is in drought this week, with 48.58% in moderate drought or worse. The last time this much of the U.S. was in drought was the week of Nov. 12, 2024.

Snow drought continues to plague much of the West this winter. In the eastern U.S., cold temperatures are freezing precipitation that could eventually bring some improvements.
