International Solidarity for the Community of Squatted Prosfygika in #Athens [en]

"There is urgent financial support needed for the Community of Squatted Prosfygika in Alexandras Avenue in Athens. The current situation has been bad and will change for the worst. Imperialist wars, fascist regimes and global capitalism are growing stronger in different territories, millions of people on the move get trapped and killed by the Greek and European Border regime, exploitation of landscapes and natural resources are pushing the climate catastrophe. These forces are the same that oppress and criminalize everyone and everything that we are struggling for. This situation leads to the need of self-organisation and social self-defense to build upon a ground of resistance.

The #Community of Squatted #Prosfygika is home to more than 500 people. As a result, Prosfygika has managed to sustain a politically unified neighborhood, numerous squatted apartments, communal structures covering the needs of dozens of people, a constant participation to local and international struggles ....."

Support Prosfygika!

Prosfygika, die größte Besetzung Griechenlands mit circa 400 Bewohnenden, steht unter Angriff.
Die besetzte Nachbarschaft lebt seit 14 Jahren ein widerständiges, selbsorganisiertes Leben im Zentrum von Athen und erschafft Lösungsansätze für eine Gesellschaft jenseits von Staat, Macht und Gewalt. Die Bewohnenden organisieren und versorgen sich selbst und sind ein fundamentaler Bestandteil der anarchistischen Bewegung in Griechenland. #Prosfygika ist ein Beispiel für gelebten Internationalismus, Basisorganisation und praktische Solidarität mit Geflüchteten.

Prosfygika ist ein Dorn im Auge der konservativ-autoritären Regierung der Nea Demokratia. Repression und #Gentrifizierung setzen anarchistische Strukturen und ehemalige Freiräume wie das Viertel #Exarchia immer weiter unter Druck. Nach und nach soll so jede Bewegung zerstört werden, die sich Staat und Kapital widersetzt. Basisorganisation, Autonomie und solidarische Organisierung stehen diesem Projekt der engültigen Neoliberalisierung Griechenlands im Weg. Wir sind uns deshalb sicher, dass der Repressionsdruck auf die Nachbarschaft nicht nachlassen wird....

Support Prosfygika!

#Prosfygika, the largest squat in Greece with around 400 residents, is under attack. The squatted neighbourhood has been living a resistant, self-organized life in the center of Athens for 14 years and is creating solutions for a society beyond the state, power and violence. The residents organize and provide for themselves and are a fundamental part of the anarchist movement in Greece. Prosfygika is an example of lived internationalism, grassroots organization and practical solidarity with refugees.

Prosfygika is a thorn in the side of the conservative-authoritarian Nea Demokratia government. Repression and gentrification are putting anarchist structures and former free spaces such as the Exarchia district under increasing pressure. The aim is to gradually destroy any movement that opposes state and capital. Grassroots organization, autonomy and organizing in solidarity stand in the way of this project of Greece’s final neoliberalization. We are therefore certain that the repressive pressure on the neighborhood will not let up. But we are just as sure that Prosfygika can provide perspectives and answers to the questions of what it means to organize long-term and resistively and to stand up to the state and capital....

"In Athens, the trial continues today of 79 defenders of the #Prosfygika community who resisted a police raid in 2022. On Tuesday, four participants in the re-occupation of the Matrozou squat in 2020 were sentenced to 77 months in prison between them.

The Prosfygika community is an occupied neighbourhood in the heart of Athens with over 400 residents. The area was invaded on 22 November 2022 by anti-terror units, who arrested anarchist Kostas Dimalexis in connection with an arson attack by an anarchist group in July 2022; while Kostas was eventually found not guilty and released after a year of prison, his 79 comrades who participated in the defence of Prosfygika against the raid face heavy charges, including breach of the peace, assault on police officers, carrying offensive weapons, and illegal possession and use of pyrotechnics....."

„Being part of the community, we learned about organizing and struggling in a collective way, aiming to find a long-term perspective of organizing against the border regime and for a free life for all. We also write this text out of an importance to share different understandings we learned in the community and to bring them to the German context, for example, the holistic understanding of self-defense, the understanding of internationalism as one main value of the struggle, and the importance of overcoming liberal mentality to be able to form honest relations with ourselves, our comrades, and the world around us.

This time appears to be the most serious and is about to be implemented immediately. All indications show that there is a plan that provides both the funding of the project – whose total estimated cost amounts to €15 million with European funding from the Attica Regional ESPA 2021-2027 – and, at the level of propaganda, the supposed creation of social housing and hostels for relatives of patients of the anticancer St. Savvas Hospital, attempting to exploit social sensitivities and reflexes….‘
