I've gotten in some trouble for this before but never gained any understanding. If you disagree or have a different point of view, I'd love to hear more about it.
I'm confused why professional sports are still divided by gender. It seems to me that coaches and owners should set a performance standard and ANYONE who meets that standard should be eligible.
What did I miss?
Actually a lot of sports are only sort of dividing by gender.
In many there is an Open division that meets your wish that anyone who meets the performance standard can play. In many sports this is effectively the men's division but technically a woman could participate.
Then there are women's divisions where only women can play in.
@HikerGeek @Gustodon Back in high school, we often played football together with some really strong girls. Sometimes, the girls even had their own teams, and they’d go on to challenge other schools’ teams too.
Being born in 1960 I grew up with both the civil rights and women's movements (what ever happened to the ERA amendment? - Google it).
If deference to the woman's movement many sports went to this Open/women's division format way back in the 70's. Again many participating in Open still call it Men's.
